Yesterday morning I was pleasantly surprised to find out from friends that I was on the front page of Slate.com. The piece is a quick interview I did back in May while in Telluride, as part of the “Interviews 50ยข” series with Alex Chadwick. In it, I tell a short story about the first (and last!) time I got conned by a couple New York street hustlers.

For those of you who may recognize this old con, I hadn’t seen “The Sting” before this happened to me! (It’s very similar to the opening sequence.)

Telluride’s Mountainfilm Festival

On May 22nd, Ryan participated in the Symposium at the 2009 Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, CO. The Symposium, which was hosted by Chef Ming Tsai, featured presentations by a number of top scholars and scientists who all spoke about food issues. To break up the long sessions, Ryan presented illusions customized for the food theme and designed to highlight certain environmental issues.

Ryan’s sister, Lauren, co-produced the film that won the Audience Award and Festival Director’s Award at the 2008 festival. Visit the Red Gold web site for more information the film.
