Visual Trickery at the Newark Museum

Yesterday at the Newark Museum I was asked to present on one of my favorite subjects: the use of illusion in visual arts. The presentation looked at how artists have used dual imagery, perspective illusions and other visual tricks to fool viewers for centuries… from Guiseppe Arcimboldo in the 1500’s to contemporary artists such as Liu Bolin, Vik Muniz, and Alexa Meade.

I was very impressed with the Museum’s permanent collection (including the largest collection of Himalayan art in the Western hemisphere!) and I encourage you to visit if you find yourself in Newark, NJ.
